Steven Krieger for School Board

Practical Solutions.

Honest answers.

for everyone.

Hey. I’m Steven. Thanks so much for your interest in my campaign to represent our views on our School Board. Since I’m asking for your vote and support, I should introduce myself.

I am married. I have one child enrolled in Key elementary school and one child who will soon be enrolled at Key because we strongly believe in the benefits of language immersion education and a diverse community. My family and I live in Lyon Village. I am a problem solver. I am a social justice advocate. I am a Guardian ad litem for children, which is a court-appointed lawyer for children involved in the court system.

I have a business degree from the University of Michigan and law degree from UCLA. I moved to metro-DC to work for environmental grassroots organizations and met my wife, Miriam, who is a successful APS graduate. She attended McKinley, Swanson, and W-L and later went to Wellesley College and law school.

The traditional name for my profession is “attorney,” but I think of myself as a problem solver.  Prospective clients contact my law firm with an issue and ask us to develop a solution. Sometimes that means filing a lawsuit, but often it means working with two sides that do not get along to avoid a lawsuit by creating a solution that mutually benefits both parties.  I genuinely believe that with sufficient information and data, people are able to make educated decisions related to their lives.

This is the first time I have run for office and I want to be your elected representative, but I do not want to be a politician, so this will not be your typical campaign.

For example, I think candidates try to hide or downplay their weaknesses, so let’s get this out of the way: I am not an educational policy expert. However, the biggest issues facing APS really have very little to do with education policy and are more operations based. For example: teacher compensation, student wellness, capacity, the budget, transparency, and equity. I am a social justice advocate and father of two school-aged children who has been directly impacted by the decisions of APS, which were not informed by data or the community.  I am asking for your vote because you believe in my ability to work with you in collaboration with APS to solve problems and replicate the successes in our community.

But, enough about me. I’m running for School Board to learn about you and what works well in your school to ensure you have sufficient support and to potentially replicate your success in other schools. Of course, we also want to know what could be improved in your school and how we can work together on a solution.

I’m looking forward to meeting you, learning about your community (what you’re most proud of and what challenges you’re facing), and earning your support and vote.

Please reach out and introduce yourself and your community. I’d be happy to sit down and chat, but also happy to share food or drink or go for jog together — and if you play tennis, definitely let me know!
